Carlos Bay is a residential project consisting of 18 residential apartments located on the heights of La Tourelle in Tamarin, Mauritius. The site boasts a 180-degrees panoramic view of the West coast. Phase 1 was successfully completed in 2015.
The Site was very challenging due to its steepness + had to abide to strict development guidelines. All apartments are terraced in such a way to benefit from un-obstructive sea views. Minimum intervention to the site was carried out to reduce extensive cuts in the original landscape. The result is a project that is contemporary & blends with the mountainous surroundings.
A maximum use of passive design was used to allow all apartments to enjoy full North orientation with maximum cross ventilation + insulation from the harsh Western Sun of Tamarin. The use of solar panels & natural materials was promoted. The innovative use of a ventilation corridor was created in the basement level such as to provide cross ventilation even in the basement.
The living spaces are all spatially open & give on a covered terrace which promote outdoor living, a very important characteristic in the Mauritian Architecture. They all enjoy un-obstructive views of the Ocean.
